The Northern Cape is the largest of the nine South African provinces, encompassing almost 33% of the total land area. The Northern Cape is most notorious for its diamond fields that borders with Namibia and Botswana. With Kimberley as the capital of Kimberley, the Northern Cape contains the unique small towns in the heart of the Namaqualand. Sutherland has obtained international status with the presence of SALT (Southern African Large Telescope), a massive astronomical observatory. Another characteristic of the Northern Cape is the home of San Bushmen in the Kalahari area. Amongst other tourist attractions, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, the Ai-Ais-Richterveld Transfrontier Conservation Park and the Orange River are listed.
